Embera-Wounan Village Tour

This tour starts around 8:00 a.m. and has a duration of approximately 8 hrs.

Embera-Wounan Village. Tourists will take a one-hour ride by car along the Panama Canal and the Soberania National Park, arriving at Alajuela Lake, where Embera-Wounan Indians will greet and transport tourists to the village by handmade canoe. The canoe ride will take about 60 minutes to the village and will provide tourists with views of birds, turtles, and monkeys along the river. At the village, Indians will welcome and greet them with lively music and invite them to gather at the community hut to provide an explanation about the history, culture and life of Embera-Wounam people. Then, tourists will be served a basic and healthy lunch of fried fish, plantains, rice and fruits.  

After lunch, tourists will walk with an Indian elder into the forests to learn about medicinal plants for 20 minutes and then go back to the village to walk freely, interacting with the villagers and buying souvenirs produced by the Embera Wounan people. The tour will end with a celebration of music and dance. Tourists return to Panama City around 4:00 p.m.
